Christmas Day is considered the First Day of Christmas (in most traditions). It's the start of Twelvetide, also known as Christmastide (again, in most traditions).

This is a liturgical season, which has spread to become part of our general concept of "the Christmas season". It's a time for joy and celebration, to wish each other peace and merriment, and to feast upon the copious remnants of Christmas Day - the Christmas Cake, the remains of turkey or goose or pheasant or what-have-you, the Pudding, some Wassail, and so on.

So... here we go.

On the First Day of Christmas, my True Love sent to Me
A Partridge in a Pear Tree.

Today (26th December) is the Second Day of Christmas.

This is also known as Saint Stephen's Day (aka Feast of Saint Stephen or Feast of Stephen, familiar to us from the Christmas carol Good King Wenceslas.)

On the Second Day of Christmas, my True Love sent to Me
Two Turtle-Doves
and a Partridge in a Pear Tree.
