Thank you - conceivably one could create a kolobok version for every element on the periodic table, but that's a lot of work!

At the moment, I'm working on a solar system Kolobok. I'm plotting the trajectory of the planets, and bearing in mind Aiwan's very sensible advice about "avoid[ing] complex small drawings", making it schematic and appropriate stylistic instead. So... there won't be any of Jupiter's moons, for instance!
I will also avoid drawing rings around Neptune and Uranus even though astronomically they should be there... but the rings are so small and fine in comparison to the size of those two planets that it would be silly for me to include them. The basics of some of the planets (and the sun) are here: ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() I was originally going to have three views of the Earth Kolobok - showing America, and Africa-Europe, and Asia-Australia - but I think that sort of detail just won't show successfully. I may try, and see how it goes. I will make Venus female, of course - a planet with pigtails! Mars must be an angry earth-sized planet - red, naturally.http://forums.kolobok.us/index.php?act=post&do=edit_post&f=8&t=2114&p=30711&st=60 Mercury is to be silvery-grey, rocky. As the smallest planet, its Kolobok version is going to be perhaps half the size of the Earth and Mars. I'm still contemplating whether I should include Pluto, given that it's no longer considered a planet, but simply a dwarf planet. If I do, I really should include other dwarf planets such as Ceres and Eris, etc. They will be VERY small; I'm not sure if I can even fit the Kolobok eyes and mouth onto them. I'll experiment. I've almost decided not to worry about the planets spinning I'll focus on the planetary orbits around the sun. Very much a work in progress at this stage. A new kolobok - the carbon atom. (Carbon-12) ![]() Some of my Koloboks don't seem to be viewable. Re-uploading to imgbb ![]() ![]() ![]() This post has been edited by Almirena: Mar 19 2019, 04:40 PM |

Clean-up / Fix
Venus. (Pigtails lighter and shorter, now moving properly, some pixel cleaning, etc). ![]() It looks odd if I remove the hairs from the top... even though this is a planet... so for the meantime I will leave them on. |

Mercury, the planet closest to the sun - a grey-ish, rocky surface, smaller than Venus and Earth:
![]() It's also somewhat smaller than Mars but for the sake of pixel clarity and simplicity, I'm making those two planets the same size in my depiction. Mars - resized: ![]() Saturn - cleaned up and sleeping, intermittently waking: ![]() This post has been edited by Almirena: Mar 22 2019, 11:45 PM |

Jupiter, king of the planets:
![]() Neptune, cleaned up a little more: ![]() ... and the coldest planet Uranus - : ![]() (As these planets will be going onto a dark background for the solar system Kolobok, they're all dark background Koloboks.) Pluto isn't going to have a face - too small. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Still working on the trajectories for the final product... Almirena, wow....what an extensive work. I like your solar system koloboks very much. And all these different characters -well done.
Especially I like the sleepy Saturn and Mars and Jupiter - and the pretty flirting Venus. Really great. ![]() ![]() ![]() -------------------- ![]() |

Reny, thank you for that kind encouragement! I enjoyed giving the planets their own little personalities...
I found that when I put the whole thing together, the personalities were a little lost - but I am pleased with the trajectories and the look of the final product. Here it is - our Solar System. ![]() |

Uh-oh... I think Neptune's trajectory is flawed...
![]() ![]() Fixed version here (although Neptune does slow down inexplicably during one orbit, but that's better than appearing ad hoc along its trajectory!). ![]() I may still work at it and produce a better fix in the future. This post has been edited by Almirena: Mar 30 2019, 06:50 PM |

Leaving the solar system for a minute... here is a tyre kicker.
![]() (Tyre kicker is an Australian term meaning “A person who inspects vehicles for sale with no intention of buying” – and hence also (by extension of the original meaning) “A person who looks at an item, project, situation, etc., without any intention of commitment; a person who asks lots of questions with no intention of making an agreement; a person who wastes [your] time”.) I tried to convey the idea of kicking without actually including any feet, to keep true to the spirit of the Kolobok. |

Australian farmers are going through very tough times at the moment.
If you've ever heard the poem "My Country" by Dorothy MacKellar, you'll be aware of the tremendous challenges that Australia's weather and capacity for disaster poses. QUOTE I love a sunburnt country A land of sweeping plains, Of ragged mountain ranges, Of droughts and flooding rains. Farmers in Australia have been experiencing record droughts, record floods, devastating bushfires, and some notable mismanagement of river systems in drought-stricken areas (where water is being taken out to the point that the low water levels and high temperatures in the Darling River, for instance, were so low that blue-green algae (which starve the water of oxygen) bloomed, resulting in the deaths of millions of fish) have seen many calling for immediate remedial action. In honour of farmers throughout the world, "doing it tough", here is my Farmer in Hardship Kolobok. (I don't know if it's obvious what I've tried to achieve - I want the Kolobok to be indicating that there's no rain to break the drought and that times are tough.) ![]() |

Very sad, I wish your farmers rain!
![]() Kolobok farmer is very indignant. And what he wants is not clear. ![]() Maybe he needs to stretch his palm? Raindrops? You can still threaten with a rake in the sky ... -------------------- |

Those are good ideas; I am going to try those suggestions and see what can work best.
I have a bull Kolobok here - inspired by the farmer concept. (Many farmers in Australia breed cattle, of course.) ![]() I don't think there's a sheep kolobok and a cow kolobok as yet...? |

A sheep Kolobok!
It's a jolly sheep with a woolly head. (No horns!) ![]() It's exactly the sort of jumbuck (Australian slang for "sheep") featured in the famous Australian bush ballad, "Waltzing Matilda". QUOTE Oh there once was a swagman camped in the billabongs, Under the shade of a Coolibah tree, And he sang as he looked at the old billy boiling, "Who'll come a waltzing Matilda with me?" Chorus: Who'll come a waltzing Matilda, my darling, Who'll come a waltzing Matilda with me? Waltzing Matilda and leading a water-bag, Who'll come a waltzing Matilda with me? Down came a jumbuck to drink at the waterhole, Up jumped the swagman and grabbed him in glee, And he sang as he put him away in the tucker-bag, You'll come a waltzing Matilda with me. And... a black sheep, with the slightest touch of "scoundrel" about him. ![]() This post has been edited by Almirena: Apr 7 2019, 06:54 PM |
