Christmas Day is considered the First Day of Christmas (in most traditions). It's the start of Twelvetide, also known as Christmastide (again, in most traditions).
This is a liturgical season, which has spread to become part of our general concept of "the Christmas season". It's a time for joy and celebration, to wish each other peace and merriment, and to feast upon the copious remnants of Christmas Day - the Christmas Cake, the remains of turkey or goose or pheasant or what-have-you, the Pudding, some Wassail, and so on. So... here we go. On the First Day of Christmas, my True Love sent to Me A Partridge in a Pear Tree. ![]() .................. ![]() Today (26th December) is the Second Day of Christmas. This is also known as Saint Stephen's Day (aka Feast of Saint Stephen or Feast of Stephen, familiar to us from the Christmas carol Good King Wenceslas.) On the Second Day of Christmas, my True Love sent to Me Two Turtle-Doves and a Partridge in a Pear Tree. ![]() .................. ![]() .................. ![]() |

Thank you, Reny - It helps to stay inspired to have such nice comments!
The 5th of January is the Twelfth Day of Christmas. The Twelfth Day is the final day of Twelvetide / Christmastide. Twelfth Night is also known as Epiphany Eve. There are some intriguing customs associated with Twelfth Night - the singing of carols, the chalking of the door, a merry feast, the selecting of a Lord of Misrule (chosen by chance if his piece of cake had a bean in it, hence he's also known as King of the Bean), and of course the baking of that cake, Twelfth Cake. This concludes the Twelve Days of Christmas until next time. On the Eleventh Day of Christmas, my True Love sent to Me Twelve Drummers Drumming Eleven Pipers Piping Ten Lords a-Leaping Nine Ladies Dancing Eight Maids a-Milking Seven Swans a-Swimming Six Geese a-Laying Five Go-o--old Rings Four Colly-Birds Three French Hens Two Turtle-Doves and a Partridge in a Pear Tree. ![]() .................. ![]() .................. ![]() .................. ![]() .................. ![]() .................. ![]() .................. ![]() .................. ![]() .................. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() .................. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() .................. ![]() ![]() ![]() .................. ![]() .................. ![]() |
