Just thought it'd be nice to get to know each other.. coz I don't speak or read russian..
Anyways, I'm actually Australian and I'm currently living and working in Canada
Yeah, good theme. I would be glad to know something about you all.
Well. I live in the North. Close to Polar Circle. And I work within the Polar Circle . Winter is cold and dark, much snow, the Northern (polar) Lights. Summer is chilly, mosquitos, midges and it's light as a day-time. There I live. I really love my town and the North. I love winter and frosts.
Good morning, or (perhaps good afternoon or good night).
I am from Spain and I live in Barcelona, a sunny mediterranean city. This summer is hot, to much hot and dry . We are waiting for the rain and a cool weather but tourists only want sun and beach.
I live in the Far East of Russia
I am from Germany .
So i see its all here, to cold, to hot,
I'm from Russia living and working in US
north-west of Russia , very old city Pskov
I live in Moscow, Russia
I live in euro part of Russia, for a long time i was living in Moscow but now i moved to another city Kazan.
its +35°C do I need Barselona? lol
live most of my life in Europe as a kid, 3 yrs in Greece and 6 yrs in Spain, didnt learn to speak it, figure i wasnt going back, no reason to learn it, guess i should have
I now live in Houston, Texas, been here about 8 yrs now, weather is great, 4 seasons how i like it, prefer the cold more, but i love the water also, spent most of my time jetskiing when not on computer.
I've always lived in the US (except when travelling abroad for work for periods of time). I've lived the last 4.5 years in Florida (Tampa Bay area 1 hour west of Orlando/Disney). We have the hot sun, many beaches, and occasional hurricane scares in the area. I really like the area, the hurricanes are the only negative side in my opinion. Before Florida I lived my entire life in Michigan where there are four seasons and we would get hot hot weather as well as cold cold weather. Also I lived near the birthplace of the automobile (Detroit).

Hi everyone! I'm from Canada. The winters are usually quite cold and long here, too, but that doesn't bother me at all. I love winter. As a kid, I lived in all sorts of places (Monica: Cologne! ), because my dad was a journalist, but Canada has always been home.
Well hello all. The names' Mark, I live in New Jersey, U.S. of A. I've been lurking here for a few days and decided to join due to the sheer quality of the smilies here! I need to thank all of the authors and creators!
There's an AWFUL lot of RUSSIAN ONLY posts in these ENGLISH ONLY sections
being spoken, can ya help a brother out???
English is my only language, so I have a tendency to use a lot of slang...sorry! (I fixed some just now)
I can only speak the Italian curse words, and a few in German, though the latter is from working for a DE based Pharmaceutical company for a few years... (Nice of them to teach me the bad stuff, aint it? )
I hate to even SAY that I created a few smilies of my own. I would more refer to them as a "needed, animated gif, created quickly and horribly" then smilies/emoticons.
Lastly, what exactly IS a Kolobok?
Kolobok is a character of old russian folk fairy tale ( kolobok is a sort of pie, made in ball form) . Aiwan is original author and owner of these smileys and this website. These smilies got name from Aiwan's wife, when she seen them first time. Yellow circles with eyes and mouths were looking like kolobok in the books and she called them koloboks. Aiwan liked this name for his smileys and since then they are having this name.
The kolobok is a famous character of a really old russian fairy tale, for very little kids. http://www.rustoys.com/Kolobok.htm
OK so now I get it! An old fairy tale. Thanks for the education, I feel much better knowing I can now safely make it a "favorite" without my Russian co-worker keeping a watchful eye on me!
As for English/Russian forum, my apologies, I phrased my comments wrong. I meant to say that in the section known as For English Users I had spotted quite a few replies in RUSSIAN with no translation... was just playing there..... no harm inteneded! Just a little forum fun!
Anyway, thanks for the 'welcome aboard'. While I cannot translate anything, I can fix the broken English I see. I won't point out any of it because it's simply not polite, however, If I'm asked nicely I could be swayed...
(God I hope this translates correctly, I could easily look like an idiot here)
So, is anyone using a Russian/English translator webpage??? Post away!
"Without the transfer!" , "Without translation!"
both are correct, but usually this phrase means "without translation".
Well in that case it's still a sentence fragment and doesn't mean a whole lot to me.
So, what your saying is, "I like look an idiot", just as I predicted.
I guess "Goodbye" in English didn't translate over too well, hence it bombed with the "without translation" error.... I wish it warned me about it! My first Russian/English mistake! I kinda like it!
Thanks, and "goodbye"!
I believe then that "прощание" would be what you were trying to say.
I'm from Berlin/Germany !
my english is very bad , but I love the lovely , yellow sweethearts and her creators!
I'cant make smilies but I have many ideas !
I'm from Germany (Munich), too..
and I love all the funny Yellows
But 'the making of' is not really easy much as I would like!
I'm from France, : lived the 25 past years in Paris (Pigalle Montmartre area) and now temporarely back in the East of France where I was born.
but virtually, I'm established in Muckle Flugga, the northest european island

Those are wonderful pictures, Aiwan. I'd like to be there now and do some snow shoeing. It's so mild here this winter, we have no snow yet at all.
I have no winter pictures of my neck of the woods, but here are a few shots I took last summer:
viannen, а море и вправду такое синее? Обалдеть... Это в Канаде? Не думаю, что когда-то попаду туда. Спасибо, за фото, они здоровские!
Yes, Georgian Bay is really that blue and turquoise. It looks like the Caribbean, but it's a fresh water lake! It's also quite deep, crystal clear and very cold. It's in the north of Ontario. Here is a map: http://www.crooked-stroke.org/images/nbpmap.jpg
I hope you do get to visit Canada some day, just as I dream of seeing Russia one day. We'll have to grow wings.

Stunning photos, snoozer and ViShenk@! Thank you! Sigh. What a beautiful country. I want to see Russia!!!
My older brother, who is a musician, went to Russia on a concert tour a few years ago, and he raves about it. He loved the country and he loved the people (and they loved him, too). I envy him terribly. But some day I'll get there. One fine day I'll board a plane...
Unfortunately, I don't often have a chance to see an NHL game live. It isn't always possible to drive so far for a game, and the tickets are quite expensive. But I play whenever I can, and often go to see a friend play - his team is quite good too. He loves your hockey Koloboks!
My name is Carol. I have been enjoying this very wonderful forum! I Love the emoticons here, they are some of the best art I have ever seen! The people is very nice here to.
I am a little bit shy about posting among such wonderful artist.

Dooris... Did you recently visit New York City? And you didnt look me up? I'm a 40 minute ride from the "Garden"...
Well shoot, I'm on the Jersey side of the cesspool! I visit my sis in Hoboken (across the river) about once a month..... How long have you been there in NY? Used to work in Time Square area.....(I must have missed that )
Hmm.. not sure I understood that, so I'll say this.
The invite is open if you'd ever like a tour. We do not visit the city as much in the colder months. The three of us (+wife, son) love the city for dinner or an occasional horse-n-carriage ride around the area to take in the sites.
I can at least recommend restaurants and site-seeing destinations......
This is a place where I was born. There are no any sights but the nature is very beautiful...
Your pictures are beautiful! Very beautiful place you live!

Hi everyone Newbie
Hello, I'm from New Jersey (the southern end). I'm so glad Spring is here. I am tired of the cold. I came across this site by accident about a month or so ago when I Googled "IPB smilies". I've known about Aiwan's koloboks for a few years now, but never knew he had a forum! I love all of the work I have seen here by Aiwan and the members who contribute some of the best smilies I've ever seen. I'm not good enough yet to make my own animated smilies. I have tried and balaam has tried to help me, but I just don't get it. I know how to animate, it's the GDK I have trouble with. It's too frustrating. I have SO many ideas, but not good enough to execute them yet. I'm slowly learning a little more and hopefully, I'll be able to contribute some smilies at some point in time.
hi and best regards to all...proud to be one of the member here...

Hello everyone. I am a Dutch person but have been living in London, England for a very long time, about 20 years now. I speak several languages, but not Russian unfortunately. Which translator used, perhaps I could use that too for translation into Russian.
I am deeply impressed with the beautiful koloboks. They are sooooo good. I love them.
Aiwan and all the other artists, keep on doing you brilliant work.

Welcome to the forum every one!
Hiya all ......Im Polly and Im from Western Australia - looking forward to getting aquainted with all ......hugs Polly
my real name is Astrid and I live in the southwest of Germany not far from Switzerland and France.
I accidentally came across this forum a few days ago when I googled a "poker" smiley and was instantly fascinated by all those wonderful smilies you have all created.
I saw a couple of the Kolobok-style smilies before but I never knew where they came from - until I got here.
I was going to ask about the origin of the Kolobok-style but I have read this entire thread and found Aiwan's link to the Russian folk tale.
Actually, the Kolobok is similar to a fairy tale I know in German: "Der dicke fette Pfannkuchen" (The big, fat pancake). I looked it up in Wikipedia and found out that these tales are related they only seem to differ in the way they get eaten, in who they get eaten by and also in what they are made of.
See for yourself (sorry, only German ) http://de.wikipedia.org/wiki/Vom_dicken_fetten_Pfannekuchen.
Wikipedia also provides a link to English versions of this tale: http://www.pitt.edu/~dash/type2025.html
We're all from different countries but in a way we all seem to share some kind of "Kolobok" tale. Just like all of you (now I'm talking of all those talented artists creating the little "Koloboks", first of all, Aiwan, of course) are from different countries and are sharing those fantastic smilies with all the others, including the non-artists (like myself).
I guess that's enough for the beginning.
If you have any questions, feel free to ask.
The bad news: I don't have the slightest idea of Russian, soooooooooooorrrry.
"Kolobok" simply title, I have chosen itself such name style my work. Than differs KOLOBOK from smile is a complicated way to say Kolobok's alive and they have a soul! They good and merry and present the people a joy. Excuse me for my terrible english
Welcome to the forum,Aurora! So happy to meet you!

Welcome to the forum all new comers..
Hi everyone, I'm from Perpignan in the south of France, not far from the Spanish border. It's a small region also called North Catalonia (hi Laie, and visca catalunya ! ) and it's a great place to live, with a wonderful climate, between the sea and the mountain.
Does your username translate into English in any way? I'm just curious about its meaning.
Speaking of English (or is that 'Speaking in English'), you've apparently had very good schooling.
I'm envious of all the multilingual members we have here.
Hi Ninapooh, yeah, I think it's the best place in the world. Actually some of the places you mention are a bit too much... northern for me. No no no, I'm not crazy, but the people from here consider that even Narbonne and Montpellier (Narbonne is only 40 km of Perpignan) are in the "north", because they are past the border of Catalonia... ok, we are weird. Anyway it's not that crazy, everything is quite different here from the rest of the region. I wouldn't leave my little bit of France for anything in the world !
No, JustCuz, my nickname couldn't be translated in English. Well, the "cat' part IS English, it refers to my cat, and Finou is short for Sophie. Thanks for the compliment by the way (I'll have to learn how to quote, I'm still learning). Yes I think I was lucky to go to a great university with awesome professors. I have an English degree and I'm an English teacher, that explains everything.
Hi im new to the boards..
I live in Windermere Florida the SunShine state....
I would like to introduce my home town to you.
I live in Hungary, in a town called Pécs, which is the fifth largest city of Hungary, located in the south-west of the country. Here, where I put the blue dot.
This area has been inhabited since ancient times, with the oldest archaeological findings being 6000 years old. Before the Roman era the place was inhabited by Celts. In the early 2nd century, when Western Hungary was a province of the Roman Empire (named Pannonia), the town was called Sopiane. In the first half of the 4th century Sopianae became an important Christian city. The first Christian cemeteries, dating back to this age, are inscribed on the World Heritage List. By the end of the century Roman rule weakened in the area, mostly due to attacks by Barbarians and Huns. Pécs, however, became an important religious centre and episcopal seat. The town's history from that time on was very eventful, so I would like to mention only a few interesting details.
After the Battle of Mohács (1526) in which the invading Ottoman army defeated the armies of King Louis II, the armies of Suleiman occupied and pillaged Pécs. After occupying the city the Ottomans fortified it and turned it into a real Ottoman city. The Christian churches were turned into mosques; Turkish baths and minarets were built, Quran schools were founded, there was a bazaar in place of the market. The city was ruled by Muslim officials according to the Sharia law. For a hundred years the city was an island of peace in a land of war. In 1686, the armies went to free Pécs.
A Turkish Church, now functions as a Catholic Church, keeping its unique, original built.
At the end of World War I Baranya county was occupied by Serbian troops, and it was not until August 1921 that Pécs could be sure that it remains part of Hungary.
During World War II Pécs suffered only minor damages.
Pécs has been selected to be the European Capital of Culture in 2010 sharing the title together with Essen and Istanbul. The city's motto will be: "The Borderless City".
The National Theater
The Bishop's Palace
The Town Hall
The Cathedral from a nice view
The town in Wintertime (my favourite season)
Thank you for the history lesson about your hometown. How do you pronounce "Pécs"?? Is it like 'pecks' or 'pakes'??
I love the pictures of the old buildings. The craftsmanship was unbelievable.
I'm Barbara -- The Moose. "The Moose" is a nickname from my son. He was playing with words: Ma - Ma - Ma - Moo - Moo -- "MOOSE". So ... I guess "Moose" is an affectionate nickname for Mama
I live in Massachusetts in the United States -- about 10 miles northwest of Boston.
I like smilies, or Koloboks now. I have over 14,000 smilies on my computer -- I guess I *LOVE* them. They're all cataloged on my computer and I use GetSmile to keep the ones that I use most often organized.
It just amazes how much expression can show in those tiny, little Kolobok faces
I want to thank you all for welcoming us "Newbies". It's amazing to find so many people in the world who like the same small joys
Beautiful pictures and history of your beautiful Home town ,Katinka! Thanks so much for sharing them.
Welcome to the forum Themoose, You are in the right place the way you love smilies
Wow Katinka, thanks a lot for sharing those beautiful pics and of course the history lesson about the place you live. I really appreciate it.
I always have wanted to live in a place with snow... now I officially envy you.
<---- This is adorable, Barbara!!!
I'm glad you joined us in this awesome community! Feel yourself at home.
Thank you all for liking my home town! It is really a sweet place, but as every city it is getting bigger and the new territories, the modern buildings can't really fit that harmony the old city has. So, I try to get as much pics about the old, ancient town as I just can. Those pics you have seen were taken by a guy, called Robert Bublik (Bublik Rуbert in Hungarian). He is a young talented photographer. If you have a little time check his site. His photos are amazing, the ones featuring animals are really adorable. http://www.bublikum.hu/
I am on my laptop, and have no smilies on it, so no smilies in this reply. I love the pictures Katinka, especially the ones with the snow. I lkove snow, but we ever get any here in London (but I don't give up hope
We had nearly a week of thick fog earlier in the year. It was eerie and although it caused a lot of havoc in the country, I loved it. The one thing I miss though is SNOW. I LOVE snow, but you can't have everything I suppose. I attach a picture of the one and only day we had snow this year
Wow! One day of snow! Not much! But I must admit thanks to this global warming up, our wonderful winters are getting warmer and warmer every year!
Oh, I love those double-deckers!
It is me in London, back in 1997.
I love winter too!!!
this is my doggy Martin swimming in snow.
I miss the snow.. had a couple of good snows in west Texas in the last 14 years.. I really enjoyed them.. one was so deep my little dog had to hop around to get through it.. I am Hoping east Texas will have a little more snow than west Texas did.
Great pictures Katinka and Dilia! Thanks for sharing the beauty!

Welcome to the forum, Alvie ! It's a great place to meet great people... including strange little yellow men and women.
And thanks Katinka and Dilia for the beautiful photos of your countries. Some of them are amazing. Personnally I prefer springtime and summer, and we don't get a real winter here. It hasn't really snowed in years. But we can enjoy the snow and winter landscapes in the Pyrenees Mountains. Snowy places ARE beautiful !

Hello everyone. Some months ago, I posted a few pictures of my home from above the surface. Now I thought I would add a few of Georgian Bay from beneath the waves, if anyone is interested. (A warning for those on dial-up: some of these images are quite large. Sorry. ).

Awesome pictures .
Thank you for sharing .
Awesome pics Viannen, thanks for the sharing!!!
Thank you all. I hoped it might interest some of you. Of course, if I lived in a tropical climate and could dive coral reefs on a regular basis, the photos would be much more impressive. But wreck diving is fun, too - and it has an eery quality about it, especially when you know people died in that wreck and you see their tools and implements still lying on the bottom. *Shudder*
Sorry about the dial-up, Sweetie.
